Today, I want to present a biographies, and background of one of the more well known presidents. We will focus mostly on his college years, and the years shortly before he ran for President. This will possibly be followed with another background of a different president.
We start with JFK, one of the better known Presidents, yet his background is often overshadowed by the story of his assassination. (information from the JFK Presidential Library)
John Fitzgerald (yes, that's actually what the F stands for) Kennedy was the second born of nine children. (Born May 29, 1917) He was named after his father, and spent most of his childhood around Boston.
Kennedy entered Harvard in 1936, and played football, before rupturing a disk in his back. His grades were average, he was well liked and very social, however, he was not the first Kennedy to consider running for president. His older brother Joe announced that he would be the first Catholic to become president. It was around this time that his father was appointed US ambassador to England, and the family, minus Joe and John who were at Harvard, would move to England.
It was because of his father's job that first thrust Kennedy toward the world of politics and government. On September 1, 1939, Germany would invade Poland, WW2 would begin and only a year later, JFK graduated from Harvard.
Both Kennedy and his brother Joe joined the Navy, and JFK became a Lieutenant. Kennedy was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Medal for his leadership and courage during the war, but his brother Joe would tragically die during the war.
While Kennedy had originally considered becoming a writer or schoolteacher, his brother's untimely death would spur him to run for Congress in Massachusetts, winning the seat in 1946. Kennedy, a Democrat, would spend three years in the House of Representatives, and would win the Senate seat in 1952. It was during this time that he would meet and marry Jacqueline Bouvier.
A popular politician, Kennedy was almost picked to run as VP in 1956, but nonetheless decided that he would run for president in the next election. July 13, 1960, the Democratic party nominated him as its candidate for president. Senator Lyndon B. Johnson would run as his VP.
And on November 8, 1960, the young Kennedy would narrowly defeat the Republican Vice President Richard M. Nixon and became the youngest man elected president, and as his brother Joe had hoped, the first Catholic president.

Why I want to be President
I'm not sure that I will ever be President.
I'm not sure that I will ever hold any political office.
I don't even remember why I told people that I wanted to be President.
But, I do want to make a difference, and if the Presidency is how I do that, then I'm all in.
I love politics, and solving problems. That began because of my involvement in debate, first in high school, and then in college. I like looking at policy options, or how legislation could improve. There are a lot of problems, both domestically and internationally, and I think that we currently aren't doing enough to solve them.
To be honest, I'm not sure if the Presidency is the way for me to serve. I am a History major, as well as a Mass Media (double emphasis in PR and journalism) major. As of now, I am planning on being a combat correspondent in the military, possibly the Marines.
But I want to keep my options open, and so if I find myself running for the Presidency in 2036, then so be it.
I think that the future is going to be revolutionary. I think that my generation has the potential to radically improve the world. But, that is going to take leaders standing up and taking action. I plan on being one of those leaders.
I'm not sure that I will ever be President. But, if I am...
I want to be President because I believe that we still hold potential to be amazing.

Intro: 2036
Hello.
I feel like a professional introduction is the best way to start my blog, since the Presidency is meant to be professional. In reality, I would say y'all, yo what's up, or fam please, but I believe that this blog should be kept to a level of professionalism. I say that, but I will also not sacrifice my personality, so please take heart in the fact that I shall try not to be boring.
I am Emily Unruh, and I am currently a student at Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas. There are a lot of inter-workings into who I am, so please ask questions if you are interested.
Let's clear things up right off the bat. I am not the President. I am not related to anyone who has been president, nor do I have connections in Washington. But what I do have is a statement that I've stuck with since before I remember. Since that time, I have proclaimed my candidacy in 2036, and my campaign has begun.
This blog is about a few things, and to be honest I haven't totally decided the route that I am going to take this blog. I will discuss common things among the Presidency, why I want to be president, and possibly a "wikihow" style step by step "how to be president." So there are a lot of ways that I could go with this, so hold on- it's going to be a ride. This also means that you can get a lot of things out of my blog, so go for it and learn some stuff.
I am probably not the most qualified person, but I do have a debate background, so I believe that I am quite well versed in politics, and I have thought about being president, so who else do you want to listen to talk about the presidency than a college student? I am the right person because I have an interest, a passion and the knowledge background to talk about this.
So let's go forward, learn some stuff and talk about important things-
